 After a study of Engineering correspondence study of Physics
 at Dresden University of Technology (DUT). 1972 PhD.
 From 1969 to 1975 assistant at DUT, Institute of Theoretical Physics.
 From 1975 to 1991 scientist at the Central Institute for
 Solid State Physics and Materials Research, Dresden.
 1991 habilitation.
 1992 founding director, since 1998 Scientific Director of the
 Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden (IFW).
 Since 1992 Professor for Solid State Physics at DUT,
 Institute of Theoretical Physics.
 External scientific member of the Max-Planck Society,
 member of Leopoldina and of the Saxonian Academy of Sciences Leipzig.
